Merida, Yucatan | Visitor's quick guide
Known as "The beautiful white city" for its white colonial houses and the cleanliness of its streets and parks, Merida offers you an unforgettable experience.
Walk through the "Paseo de Montejo" avenue, enjoy the main square park and find all kind of regional things at the city market ("Mercado grande").
Saturdays night are just magic: from the main square to the Santa Lucia park they close the street to cars transit and set up typical dances and cultural performances for local people and visitors.
You will find a very romantic atmosphere with outdoors coffee shops and restaurants, and a spectacular lighting for historical buildings, ancient trees and colonial monuments.
Directions
From Cancun, just take a bus from the "ADO" bus station located on the Tulum Ave.
Merida is 4 hours away, but they play a couple of movies into the bus and the seats are very comfortable.
When you buy your bus tickets, you can choose arriving to the "Down Town Terminal" at Merida or to the "Fiesta Americana Hotel Terminal".
Definitively choose the second one, because is located on the main avenue "Paseo de Montejo", which is a nice occasion to take a walk to downtown, under beautiful aged trees, admiring the magnificent colonial buildings along the avenue and enjoying a coffee or an ice cream at one of its many outdoor restaurants and coffee shops.
The other terminal is not convenient at all, as it is far from the city attractions.
Costs
$25-$30-$39 dollars one way trip, depending on the bus you choose (ADO, GL or UNO), we recommend GL or UNO.
You can find good small hotels at downtown for $40 dollars room/night
