Cancun Best Things To Do | Most popular activities
How would you like to spend your time in Cancun?
Here are some ideas that you can use to enjoy all the best things-to-do Cancun has for you.
Just do not forget to take some time to sleep... you will need it!
You will find at the beach several rental options for water sports: wave runners, kayaks, sunfish sailing, parachutes, banana boat, speed boats, etc.
The people offering these services require a government authorization, which is given only if the activity is safe for users, so you can trust in these operators and enjoy yourself.
Some of these services are also available in the marinas.
This is a great way to combine entertainment, adventure and culture.
There are tours to swim with the whale sharks, to the jungle, underground cenotes, mayan ruins, colonial cities, party boats, other islands, etc.
Prices are quiet the same buying directly to the tour operator or through an agency or a representant.
In Cancun you will find handicrafts from whole Mexico, as well as all kind of gold and silver jewelry.
In Hotel Zone there are 2 main shopping centers: "La Isla" and "Plaza Kukulkan", and a flea market also.
In downtown you can visit the "Mercado 28", a large handicrafts market, or "Las Américas" mall, where you can find fashion shops, sportswear, jewelry, bookstores, etc.
If you are looking for a great party, do not miss the Cancun nightlife, from 11-12 at night until sunrise (or more!).
Some of the most popular discos are Coco Bongo, Daddy Rock, The City and Bulldog, all of them with spectacular opening shows and great ambiance.
If you want to start early, try the bars located at Party Center area, in Hotel Zone.
Restaurants in Cancun are remarkable in food and service. You will find all kind of cuisines, but Mexican and Regional dishes are something you wont forget.
Waiters are always friendly and they have the gift to make you feel great.
It would not be a bad idea to bring some Tums, because you are going to love to eat here!
There are two wonderful places you can not miss in your Cancun vacations: "Xcaret" and "Xel-Ha" theme parks.
In both parks you will be able to admire and enjoy the wonders of this land and you will find them very educational also, for the family.
For fun purposes, there is also a "Wet N Wild" water park, located at the end of the Hotel Zone.
Mexican people love parties, so you will find always a celebration, fest or upcoming events in Cancun.
Some of the most popular are: carnival, jazz fest, spring break and national, religious and family holidays.
Mexicans are always very friendly, so feel free to join the party at anytime!
Soccer and baseball are the most popular sports in Mexico, and Cancun hosts very good teams in both sports.
Until mexican baseball league does not compare with MLB in the United States, to be in the Cancun stadium is a very funny experience and allows you to feel how mexicans enjoy baseball or soccer in their very own way!
Of course, there are many more activities in downtown!

Travel documents
Fortunately Mexico is very flexible with tourists, and you only need your passport to get into the country. No visa document is needed and you will only be requested to fill a general information form when you arrive.
Currency
Mexican official currency is the Peso and the exchange rate flows around 12-13 pesos for dollar. It has been very usual and accepted to pay in dollars, as Cancun economy is based on tourism, from USA mostly. However, recently, the Mexican government has forced tourist industry companies to refuse dollars from tourist, by restricting the amount of dollars that companies can monthly deposit in bank accounts. In consequence, the majority of stores and tourist operators are not accepting dollars any longer, but pesos only, until you can always use your credit card, without restrictions.
Weather
Cancun has an excellent weather all along the year. Even on winter, a light jacket is more than enough. Bring comfortable, fresh cloths, and do not worry about the umbrella.. there is a very low probability of needing one.
Language
Do not worry about the Spanish neither.. everybody speak English! However, do not miss the chance to learn some Mayan expressions and words, you will find it very funny and is so easy to find somebody who speaks Maya!
Cancun
Moving your self around Cancun is very easy. There is only one avenue that takes you to all the hotels, and downtown is easy to walk and everything is close by. However, if you need to take a transport in downtown, take a taxi. They are inexpensive and much more faster than buses.
But if you need to go to Hotel Zone, then the taxi could be a little expensive. In that case, the bus will be the best option. Very cheap, functional and they run 24 hours all along the hotels zone and downtown.
Nearby Cities
Visiting the nearby cities is also cheap and easy either by bus or by car. Bus station is located at Tulum Avenue -the main avenue in downtown-, and they have routes that connect you to every single city or town in the Yucatan Peninsula. Not all the buses are first class, but you are in Mexico!.. everything is an adventure!
